Years 4 and 5 went on a field trip to Africa Rice
On Wednesday, the 8th of April 2015, our class went on a field trip to Africa Rice with Mrs. Juliet. It was a thirty minutes ride from our school to Africa Rice. We were welcomed by a lady called Gisele who knew the way to all the offices, laboratories, etc...
Arjun Suri, Yr. 4.
Mrs. Fifame showed us a machine that takes the skin off the rice grain. Another machine helps to polish the rice (make it smoother and whiter). A third machine helps to separate the broken rice grains from the whole rice grains. Finally, she puts the broken rice in a machine that transforms it to flour.
Anke De Kock, Yr. 5.
Mr. Tia showed us that there is African wild rice, Glaberrima, Asian rice and variety rice. He showed us the conserving room which contains the most seeds in the world – 20,000 seeds. Then he showed us the room where they check the seeds for fungi and the drying room.
Alieu Jarjusey, Yr. 5
We also had an unexpected feast kindly made and we got free rice packets, a pen and a notebook.
Yann Ray, Yr 5
