Culture on field trip to Ma Culture
Nandhini Iyer, Year 5
On Wednesday the 16th of February, my class and I went on a field trip to a school where they taught children about their culture, dance and language. We left at 9 o' clock and we reached at 20 minutes past 9. In the first class we went into, there was a teacher teaching children the alphabet in Fon - their local language. In the second class, the teacher was teaching them how to read and write. The third class was the library. There were many interesting books. We even saw traditional jewelry, shoes and cloth. We even saw traditional dance and we really did dance too.
At breaktime, we went to the Administration and we had some corn porridge and ''doko'' (local doughnuts). After this delicious break, we were allowed to participate in the different workshops. I went to the hair styling section, weaving section, music and dance section, calligraphy section to draw and I even helped with making stools at the bamboo section. Some of my classmates did some beading.
At lunch time, we ate pounded yam and peanut sauce - one was vegetarian and the other was non-vegetarian. We finished our tasty lunch and went out to take a group picture and we received free t-shirts with their logo. Mrs. Afolabi had to urge us to leave. Even though we felt reluctant, we still went to the bus. All the children at the school sang a sweet song to tell us goodbye. They even gave us pineapple to share at school.
I felt as if it was my house. It was such an amusing, entertaining and amazing day! I will never forget this day.
