Field Trip to See Sea Turtles

Joas Akpona, Year 6

On the 7th of February 2024, the Year 6 class of the English International School went on an educational tour of Mr. Isaac’s place at Quartier Jak to see how he was preserving the lives of the marine turtles at his place.

As early as 8:50 am, the Year 6 left the school in their school bus with our teacher Mrs. Afolabi and Miss Zeinab, our lab assistant. Some of us were so excited to see turtles for the first time in our lives. Soon we got to Mr. Isaac’s place where we were welcomed warmly. Before taking us round to see the turtles, he explained to us why and how he decided to save these marine animals.

He then took us round to have a look at the turtles which looked like tortoises. There were very many of them. We also saw three big turtles: one female and two males. Mr. Isaac explained to us that the female turtle can lay as many as 118 eggs in a month.

We also saw two big crabs. Mr Isaac allowed us to pick up the baby turtles which we liberated into the sea. We left Mr Isaac’s place around 10:15am very satisfied. We were very happy with this field trip and wish to have more in the future.

Year 4 and 5 put their creative skills to work on items that would normally just be thrown away.

The school handed over the 209,000F CFA which had been raised by various student activities.

We met new capoeirists and they taught us some skills before going to the Batizado.
