Field Trip to the seashore
Serena Houndonougbo, Year 6
Today, Tuesday the 15th of November, the Year 6 and 7 went on a field trip to a seashore where young turtles were taken care of. We went with our class teachers Mrs Afolabi and Mrs Gajwani and assistant Mrs Afi. We were transported in the school mini bus. We left at 9:45am and arrived back in school at 11:45am. We went to the seashore at Quartier Jak behind El Dorado. Over there, we learned new things about turtles and we even got to set them free.
The first thing we did was a question session. We asked Mr Isaac (the caretaker of the sea turtles) some questions and learned something new each time. I learned that turtles can live for over 100 years! I also learned that the female turtle can lay 150 eggs. They leave their eggs in the sand on the seashore and just leave them there. Mr Isaac said he started saving the turtles when he heard a voice telling him in a dream to do so. It already has been 20 years since he first started saving them.
After our question session, we finally got to see the turtles. First, we saw the eggs, then the baby turtles and one bigger one. We each held one and later on got to set them free. We lined up our turtles and had a race to see which turtle would get to the finish line (the ocean). We took many pictures of them and even of the crabs we saw! Almost everyone wanted to hold the baby turtles to set them free again, except we couldn’t.
Overall, our field trip to the seashore was a huge success and massive fun. We learned new things and let turtles live a happy life in the ocean. I would recommend checking it out to experience it yourself! You can go with family and friends and just have a good time!
