Making a Solar Oven in Science and Technology (STEM) Club

Have you ever cooked or baked food in a solar oven? Children in the Science and Technology (STEM) Club have done so with teacher, Magdalene Maduagwu. They worked carefully to build their solar ovens using pizza boxes, aluminium foil, black cardboard, transparent plastic bags and newspaper.

They were able to see their egg cooked to perfection! These ‘budding engineers’ learned that the rays of the sun are converted to heat energy, which cooks the food. Their solar ovens worked in a way similar to how a greenhouse retains heat.

Bon appétit!
