Origami

Reporter - Jerusha Issac, Year 8

On the 12th of January 2016, an origami expert came to our school. He spoke French and Neyna, Tola and Abigael helped translate to English. He asked us if we knew what origami was and he explained that it was the art of folding paper into beautiful shapes. He said that we could talk and express ourselves through origami. For example, if two people are fighting and don’t want to talk to each other then one of them can send the other one an origami creation of a bird. A bird symbolizes peace and so the two might be friends again. He also said that a flower can be given to someone if you want to tell the person you are sorry. He proceeded to show us various pictures of origami creations ranging from a simple butterfly to complicated dragons. He wanted us to make a simple bird, but the majority of the class chose to do a quite complicated dragon and the majority won. It took us the whole art class of that day to make the dragon and we were pleased with our work. We took group pictures and those who wanted to do origami as an afterschool activity signed their names on a list. I had fun doing origami.

On Tuesday, 12th of January 2016, Mr. David and Mr. William came to our class to show us how to do origami. When they came they started to explain what origami was and what different types of origami there were. We started to make origami models and when we were done, it formed a (case) hut – the house that people in the village live in. I think this art class was very educative because first of all, it taught us how to keep our calm and secondly, how to concentrate.
