English International School Newsletter of the 14th September 2023

Dear Parents,

We trust that this first Newsletter of the new academic year finds you in good health.

On behalf of the E.I.S. staff, I extend a warm welcome to our new school families and welcome back those who have been with us. We look forward to an exciting and productive school year.

E.I.S staff remain committed to ensuring the wellness and safety of our school families. Emphasis will continue to be placed on proper handwashing and consideration of others to prevent transmission of illness. We appreciate your cooperation in this by keeping your child at home if he/she is ill.

Please review the calendar for this school year, and note the following information:

Class Information and Timetables

Class teachers will send home introduction letters which give important information regarding classroom routines and timetables. Please review these with your children so that they will be well-prepared for certain activities on given days. You will note that there will be two 45-minute breaks in each day, during which time children make have a snack, lunch and some recreation.

Communication

As many of you already know, our school Newsletter is an important vehicle of communication, informing all of what is going on in our school community and sometimes in the community at large. Please make it a priority to keep up with the latest information. Although new school families will receive this first newsletter in hard copy, we shall return to maintaining our commitment to the environment. You may subscribe to the newsletter directly by going on the school website and following the instructions. Please be sure to keep your desired email address up to date with us. Newsletters are available for reading on the school website and are also posted on all of the building boards for information. The Parents’ Handbook can be accessed on the school website, as well.

After-School Activities

After-School Activities will begin next week. A variety of physical, arts and enrichment activities are on offer at school. For further details, visit our school website. Please note that children who take part in activities are to be picked up from school promptly at 16:00. Siblings who are not engaged in activities must be picked up at 14:45.

Physical Education

Physical Education activities are part of the school programme. If your child is unable to take part in a physical activity on a given day due to illness or other reasons, kindly put this intention in writing, addressed to the class teacher. Mens sana in corpore sano!

Uniforms

Orders are still being taken for school uniforms and will continue to be delivered to children. If any adjustments are necessary, the Secretary will be able to contact the tailor. We ask that parents make sure that their children are dressed properly and have a neat appearance before leaving for school.

International Day of Peace – 21st September

We will mark this day in school in various ways. The United Nations General Assembly has declared 21st September as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. This year is the 21st Anniversary of the U.N. Resolution on the Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace.

We look forward to a fruitful year ahead and to collaborating with you on this important journey.
