English International School Newsletter of the 17th January 2025

Dear Parents,

Having completed the first full week of our second term in school, we can now feel settled, and with anticipation for an exciting and productive remainder of the academic year.

Please note the following information and reminders:

International Day of Education – 24th January

In celebration of the role of education for peace and development, UNESCO proclaimed this day, with different yearly themes. The truly relevant theme for 2025 is AI and Education: Preserving human agency in a world of automation. We will aim to approach this theme with critical eyes in classes, acknowledging AI’s success as a tool, whilst reflecting on its ethical implications.

Physical Education Lessons

Please remind your children to be prepared for school and sports lessons with the appropriate uniform and kit, as stated on the school website. Physical education is part of the school programme. If a child is unable to take part in the lesson on a particular day, a note must be sent from the parent / guardian to the class teacher, requesting that the child be excused due to a valid reason.

School Uniform

A review of the Uniform and Equipment section of the school website will guide you and your children on what is appropriate adornment for school. Please note that smartwatches are not to be worn to school and, like mobile phones, are forbidden in exam rooms.

After-school Activities

After-school activities began this week, with a range of activities on offer. We encourage children to actively pursue non-academic interests, which keep them fit, help them de-stress and enable them to cultivate new hobbies and talents. You may find the description of activities and the instructors’ contacts on the school website.

Post-Mock Examinations Meetings, Years 11 – 13

These meetings will take place during the weeks of 20th and 27th January. Letters to be signed by parents / guardians are being sent home today.

Please note the change of date on the school calendar for this internal event, from 24th January to 14th February.
