Dear Parents,

On behalf of Mrs. Gajwani and the Year 6 class, I thank you for your kind and generous support in helping to make their small charity fair a success. The children were very happy to help maintain E.I.S.’s commitment to charity in some way this year and foster a spirit of service to the wider community. Their expressions in writing of what they have learned and what will be achieved will be forthcoming.

Please note the following reminder:

Public Holiday: Monday, 24th May – Whit Monday / Pentecost Monday

School will be closed on this day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, 25th May.

Punctuality

As teachers have stressed, classes begin at 8:00. It is advisable for students to arrive in school between 7:45 and 7:55 in order to settle in and be ready for the start of the school day at 8:00. A student arriving after 8:00 without a valid excuse is considered late.

The practice over the years in the Middle School had been that those who arrive late to school are to be sent to the administration building to collect a late admittance slip from the secretary. It has come to my attention that this practice has, regretfully, recently been neglected by the security and morning ‘gate keepers,’ mainly due to the focus placed on the sanitary protocol under the pandemic.

Our intention is to impress upon the students that punctuality is essential in an interdependent learning environment and that valuing classmates’ and teachers’ time shows your respect of them as well as your respect for yourself. The student should also understand that perpetual lateness leads to missing valuable lesson time and sets him/her at a disadvantage, academically and socially.

The inconvenience of collecting a late admittance slip is meant to serve as a deterrent. When our practice has been followed systematically, we have seen a decline in tardiness, hence the need to resume the practice, all with the students’ best interest in mind. We count on your understanding, cooperation and a refrain from rudeness toward security guards or other school personnel. Hand-in-hand, we can effect change which will benefit our children a lifetime.
