Dear Parents,

As we approach the Chinese New Year of the Red Monkey, I invite you to note the following information and reminders:

School Survey

We thank you for taking the time to complete our school survey. Your comments and suggestions are important to us (as administrators and teachers) and most of all, to our children. We found that the top parent priorities parallel those of school at present: security, extra reading times and after-school activities.

Security

The American Embassy has promised to provide our school with a radio system, linking us to their emergency network. We take the issue of security seriously and have been in discussion regarding the steps we shall take to improve such in light of the recent distressing events in several parts of the world.

School Fair

At the staff meeting on 11th January, it was decided to set the date for the annual School Fair on Saturday, 19th March 2016. Letters will go out next week, requesting your participation in the preparation of this fun community event. We hope that you will take the time to consider the area(s) in which you will like to lend your help.

Institut Français

For your weekend entertainment, there are many concerts, exhibitions, theatre and dance performances, films, etc. taking place during the upcoming months. The programme is posted on the Cotonou Culture board behind the secretary’s office and also at the Institut Français.

Information about the DELF Examinations for French language diplomas, issued by the French Ministry of Education and given by the Institut Français, is posted at school and has been shared with the students in French classes. A DELF Prim examination has been introduced this year for younger children, aged 7 – 12. You may contact the Institut Français directly at 21.30.08.56 or by email: dlf@if-benin.com

Mock Cambridge IGCSE / Advanced Level Examinations

These examinations for Years 11, 12 and 13 students will take place during the week of 25th January. Letters have been sent out to the parents of those involved. We count on the cooperation of all at school during this time to provide support and encouragement to their fellow students.

Origami Club

New on the school website list of After-school Activities is the Origami Club, run by Mr. David, a member of the British Origami Society. We welcome this art of paper folding to the variety of activities on offer this term. As with all activities, fees are to be paid to the instructor at the beginning of the term’s sessions. Once again, if you have a particular talent which you would like to share with our children or know of someone who does, we will be glad to consider it for one of our activity offerings.

Homework Diaries

Along with recording homework assignments, the homework diaries/agendas are an important instrument of communication between teachers and parents. Kindly review these with your children on a regular basis.
