Dear Parents,

At the start of a new academic year, I would like to extend a warm welcome to our new school families and welcome back those who have been with us.

As we look forward to an exciting and productive academic year, we also welcome the following new members of our staff:

Mr. George Taxiltaridis – Middle School English, History, Geography and Class Teacher

Ms. Djevelyne Phileus – Lower School Games

Mr. Michael Fossou – Middle and Upper School Games

We are pleased to welcome back Mrs. Nicole Taxiltaridis (now known as “Mrs. T”) who, as some of you may remember, taught at EIS during the 2008 – 2009 academic year. She has returned to our school in the role of Assistant Head and Intensive English Teacher. You may find her office in the Lower School garden area.

I am also happy to announce that Madame Pélagie Dagnonhoueton (French teacher) successfully completed a one-month professional development training course in July, organised by the CIEP (Centre International d’Etudes Pédagogiques) in Nantes, France. Our school’s students and teachers will be fortunate to benefit from Madame Pélagie’s experience. We congratulate her on this achievement.

Communication

This is the first of many newsletters that you will read during the year to inform you of what is going on in our school community. In maintaining our commitment to the environment and our determination to reduce paper waste at school, we post our newsletters on the school website and on each of our building boards. You may call into the secretary’s office if you need a hard copy of the newsletter in hand, or to consult the school’s Parents’ Handbook. The Parents’ Handbook is a valuable resource to understanding our school’s mission, philosophy and rules. Please make it a priority to keep up with the latest information and do not hesitate to direct any questions to me, to Mrs. T, or to other members of staff.

Please note the following in your diaries:

Public Holiday – Eid al-Adha, Thursday, 24th September: School will be closed.

Information / Social Evening – Friday, 2nd October 17:00 – 18:30 (More information will be forthcoming.)

Teachers will display curriculum materials and answer questions about classroom routines, expectations and goals.

Uniforms

Orders are still being taken for school uniforms and will continue to be delivered to children. If any adjustments are necessary, the Secretary will be able to contact the tailor. We ask that parents make sure that their children are dressed properly and neatly before leaving for school.

After-School Activities: 15:00 – 16:00

Most activities begin this week. A variety of physical, arts and enrichment activities will be on offer this term. A detailed list is on our website. Please make sure that your children are picked up promptly after their sessions.
